Bamboo Ingredients
There are over 1,000 species of bamboo. A common commercial type is Phyllostachys edulis, commonly known as Moso bamboo.
Bamboo is an extremely quick growing grass, it’s main ingredients are: Lignin & cellulose fibres giving it structure, Silica gives rigidity and natural sugars help with durability and microbial properties.

Its top uses
Ideally for our principles we would use it in a virgin form without processing techniques which would effect recycling.
Simple uses would be kitchen utensils and tools, food storage and lids, furniture.
Cutting boards, fabrics and paper require additional processing and may not fit in with our ethos.
-
Is it recyclable?
No, bamboo is not recyclable, but there would be no real benefit in doing so.
Bamboo is biodegradable over time, but may need some help to speed the process up, i.e. shredding.
For biodegradability you need to keep the bamboo raw or minimally treated.
-
How it fits our ethos
We do need to talk advantage of this great grass in our product range. Untreated bamboo in simple product designs fit our ethos.
Some advantages of bamboo is its quick growth, its excellent CO2 absorption, its one of the best carbon sinks, it self propagates (rhizome system) and doesn’t require pesticides.
