Carbon Steel

Naturally Non-Stick

  • Carbon Steel Ingredients

Iron (Fe) is the base and Carbon (C), around 2% by weight creates this alloy. Other elements may be present depending on the grade.

We should use these ingredients with respect as they are a precious, limited resource.

Habitat destruction as well as ground pollution and carbon emissions are an unescapable result?? of the mining process.

  • Its top uses

Carbon Steel has a huge array of uses from kitchenware, structural beams, industrial and agricultural machinery, plus many more.

In the kitchen we use it for frying pans and skillets, knifes and scissors as it can maintain a sharp edge.

It’ll be good for a lifetime of heavy use and only gets better the more it’s used.

  • Can it be recycled?

100% Yes. It can be recycled without degradation and can be melted and reused for new products. Like most materials though it needs to be pure.

If it’s fused with plastics or other metals, has a chemical coating or painted, recycling may not be possible and that is a crying shame.

Ours will be made solely from Carbon Steel so there’s no problem.

  • How it fits our ethos

Recycled Steel uses less than 70% of the energy required than producing new Steel. Steel is the most widely recycled material on the planet due to its magnetic properties as this makes it easier to identify and seperate.

It is a great material for frying pans and skillets. It takes a little work to maintain, but you will benefit from a pan that will last a lifetime.

It’s not stick qualities will improve with use and it doesn’t need any nasty chemical finishes that render recycling pretty much impossible.
